By Ethan Halfhide · Updated October 5, 2026

Last verified 2026-10-05

Squarespace has four website plans. Billed yearly, Basic is $19 a month, Core $29, Plus $49 and Advanced $99; paying month to month costs $25, $39, $65 and $139. There is no free plan, only a 14-day free trial. These are US prices before tax from Squarespace's pricing page as of October 2026, checked on October 5, 2026.

TL;DR: Top pick

Squarespace: Four plans and no free tier. Basic at $19 a month billed yearly ($25 monthly) covers a simple site, but Core at $29 ($39 monthly) is the one to price if you sell, because it removes the 2% store transaction fee and adds code injection and unlimited contributors. Prices are from Squarespace's pricing page as of October 2026.

Squarespace pricing at a glance

The plan price is only part of the bill. Yearly billing is charged up front ($228 for Basic, $348 for Core, $588 for Plus and $1,188 for Advanced, as of October 2026 on Squarespace's pricing page) and includes one year of a free custom domain, which then renews at Squarespace's standard domain rate. If you sell, Squarespace takes a transaction fee on the Basic plan on top of card processing, and digital content carries its own fee on every plan except Advanced. Business email, appointment scheduling, email marketing and extra AI credits are separate purchases. This guide takes each cost in turn. For how the AI site builder itself works, see our Squarespace AI website builder guide.

Monthly or yearly billing: what you save

All four plans can be billed monthly or yearly, and yearly is one payment up front (see the table). By our arithmetic from the October 2026 prices, paying yearly is $72 cheaper over twelve months on Basic, $120 on Core, $192 on Plus and $480 on Advanced, about 24% to 29% less than twelve monthly payments. The banner on the pricing page says you can save up to 36%, a figure that does not match any of the four current plans. Yearly billing also unlocks the free first-year domain, and only a new yearly plan can be refunded (in full, within 14 days). Monthly billing suits a short project or a site you may not keep: you can switch to yearly later, and Squarespace says that change takes effect immediately.

What each plan adds

Basic ($19 a month billed yearly, as of October 2026) is a full website plan: templates, the drag-and-drop editor, hosting, SSL, SEO tools and 24/7 support, with 2 contributors. You can sell products, send invoices and sell memberships on it, but Squarespace takes 2% of store sales and 7% of digital content sales, and Basic leaves out discounts, shipping labels, code injection, the advanced code block (JavaScript and iframes), promotional pop-ups, the announcement bar, and the Mailchimp and Zapier integrations. Core ($29), the plan Squarespace marks as recommended, removes the store transaction fee and adds all of those, plus unlimited contributors, advanced analytics, Google Shopping listings and a free first year of one Google Workspace mailbox. Plus ($49) and Advanced ($99) include everything in Core and mostly change the fee schedule: lower card rates, a digital content fee of 1% and then 0%, more video storage and more AI credits. Both add reserved carts with a countdown timer for limited releases, and Squarespace's help center says Advanced also lets you connect your own carrier account for carrier-calculated shipping.

Transaction fees and card processing

Two different charges come out of each sale. The first is Squarespace's own transaction fee: 2% of online store sales (products, services and donations) on Basic and 0% on the other three plans, plus a separate fee on digital content and memberships of 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus and 0% on Advanced. Invoices carry no transaction fee on any plan. The second is payment processing. With Squarespace Payments in the US, standard cards cost 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic and Core, 2.7% + $0.30 on Plus and 2.5% + $0.30 on Advanced. Premium cards (American Express and some business, commercial and corporate cards) are 3.2% + $0.30 on every plan, international cards add 1.5%, and currency conversion adds 1%. Klarna is 5.45% + $0.30 and Afterpay 6% + $0.30. If you use Stripe or PayPal instead, you pay their processing rates, and Squarespace's transaction fee still applies where your plan has one. By our arithmetic, a $100 store order paid with a standard US card costs $5.20 in fees on Basic ($3.20 processing plus the $2.00 transaction fee) and $3.20 on Core. Rates are as of October 2026.

When a higher plan pays for itself

These break-even points are our own calculations from the yearly prices and fees above, as of October 2026. Core costs $120 a year more than Basic and removes a 2% store fee, so Core is cheaper once your store sells more than $6,000 a year, about $500 a month. Plus costs $240 a year more than Core. Its 0.2-point lower card rate alone only covers that at $120,000 a year in card sales, but its digital content fee is 4 points lower, so Plus pays for itself at $6,000 a year in course or membership sales. Advanced costs $600 a year more than Plus: that is $300,000 a year in card sales at 0.2 points, or $60,000 a year in digital sales at 1 point. In short, a store selling physical products gets little from Plus or Advanced on fees alone until card volume is large, while anyone selling digital content should price Plus early. If a store is the main reason for the site, our guide to the best AI website builder for ecommerce compares other options.

Domains: free for a year, then a renewal bill

Every website plan bought on yearly billing includes one year of free registration for one custom domain. Squarespace's help center says the offer covers domain endings priced the same as .com and does not apply to monthly billing or Mobile Start plans. After the first year the domain renews on its own yearly cycle. The pricing page says it renews "at our standard rate, plus applicable taxes", and Squarespace's domain refund policy puts that at $20 a year for free domains (as of October 2026). A different help article says the renewal is the listed price for that domain ending, so check the renewal price in your domains dashboard. Domains auto-renew by default and Squarespace charges the card 15 days before the renewal date. A domain can be refunded in full if cancelled within five days of registration, but renewals are not refundable. You can also connect a domain you bought elsewhere to any plan.

Business email add-ons

A Squarespace domain does not come with a mailbox, so business email is a separate subscription. Google Workspace bought through Squarespace costs $8.40 a user per month or $84 a year on Starter, $16.80 or $168 on Standard, and $26.40 or $264 on Plus, according to Squarespace's help center (as of October 2026, before tax). Sites in their first year on Core, Plus or Advanced can claim one Starter mailbox free for a year; after that it renews at the standard rate unless you turn off auto-renew. Basic does not include the offer. A cheaper option is Essential Email by Titan, which Squarespace sells at $3 a month on monthly billing only (as of October 2026). Squarespace also says all its domains include free email forwarding for up to 100 aliases.

Scheduling, email marketing and SMS add-ons

Each of these is its own subscription, and all prices here are as of October 2026. Scheduling: Acuity's pricing page lists Starter at $16 a month billed yearly ($20 monthly) with 1 calendar, Standard at $27 ($34 monthly) with up to 6 calendars, and Premium at $49 ($61 monthly) with up to 36, with a 7-day free trial. Email Campaigns: building mailing lists, drafting campaigns and sending up to three trial blast campaigns are free, and after that plans are priced by how many emails you send a month, in tiers from 500 to 500,000 emails. On October 5, 2026 Squarespace's Email Campaigns page showed plans from $8 a month on yearly billing for the 500-email tier. Treat that as a starting figure, not a fixed price: the plan data behind the page's price selector carries test labels, so check the page for the tier you need. The 500-email plan keeps a "Powered by Squarespace" line in the footer. SMS campaigns are available in the United States for sites set to English, in plans of up to 10,000 SMS credits a month, and Squarespace says the feature is being released in waves.

Costs that are not on the pricing page

A few charges sit outside the four plan cards. Sales tax: Squarespace says the prices on its pricing page do not include tax, and in the US it collects sales tax on subscriptions in certain states and cities, based on your billing address. More than one site: billing plans apply to individual sites, so a second site needs its own plan. AI credits: credit packs of up to 400 credits can be bought on top of a plan's allowance, and Squarespace's help center does not list their price. Instant payouts from Squarespace Payments cost 1.5% of the payout, with a $0.50 minimum in the US. Mobile Start, a 30-day plan that does not auto-renew, is bought through an Apple in-app purchase in the iOS app, and its price is not on the pricing page.

Free trial, refunds and cancelling

Every Squarespace site starts with a 14-day free trial, and no credit card is needed to start one. Trial sites are private, cannot take payments and are not indexed by search engines. Squarespace offers a one-time seven-day extension. The refund policy is narrow: a new yearly website plan can be refunded in full if you cancel within 14 days of purchase, with the cost of the free domain deducted if you claimed one. Monthly plans, renewal payments, downgrades and yearly plans after the 14 days are not refunded. Website subscriptions renew automatically. Squarespace emails a reminder 15 days before a yearly renewal, but monthly plans renew with no reminder. You can cancel at any time and either keep access until the end of the billing period or, inside the refund window, end service at once for the refund. Email Campaigns and SMS campaigns are non-refundable, and yearly Acuity plans follow the same 14-day rule.

Discounts Squarespace offers itself

Squarespace says it shares its promotions directly through its website or emails. As of October 5, 2026, its coupons page shows the code GIMME10 for 10% off a yearly website plan, valid on a first purchase only. Students get more: 50% off the first year of a yearly website plan, verified through Student Beans. Squarespace's help center says this is for current full-time students at eligible colleges and universities, not alumni, staff or high school students, and that the next payment is charged at full price. Offer codes cannot be combined with each other or with automatic discounts, and cannot be used on renewals. Freelancers and agencies who join Squarespace Circle, its free partner program, get 10%, 20% or 25% off the first payment of yearly subscriptions depending on their partner status.

Older plans, price changes and lower prices quoted elsewhere

If you have seen a lower starting price for Squarespace quoted elsewhere, it is not what Squarespace's pricing page shows today (October 2026): $19, $29, $49 and $99 a month billed yearly. Squarespace says it periodically adjusts its plans and pricing. Existing customers are not moved to a new plan automatically: Squarespace says many remain on the plans they signed up for, including the older Personal, Business and Commerce plans, which stopped being sold in February 2026. Squarespace also says that if you get an email about a price increase, you pay the updated price on your next renewal date. Changing plan or reactivating an expired site moves a legacy customer to current plans and pricing, and there is no way back.

Which Squarespace plan to pick

Pick Basic for a portfolio, blog or brochure site that sells little or nothing and has one or two editors. Pick Core if you sell products or services regularly, need more than two contributors, or want code injection, pop-ups, discounts or a free year of business email. Pick Plus if you sell courses, memberships or other digital content, because the digital fee drops from 5% to 1%. Pick Advanced when digital sales or card volume are large enough for the last fee cuts to cover the higher price. If you are deciding between a hosted builder and an open-source one, our Squarespace vs WordPress comparison covers cost and ownership side by side.

What we could not verify

Squarespace's Email Campaigns prices load in an interactive selector, and the plan identifiers behind it include test labels, so we give only the starting figure the page showed on October 5, 2026 and no prices for the larger tiers. We could not confirm from Squarespace's own pages when its website plan prices last changed or what they were before, so this page gives no earlier prices. We could not pin down one renewal price for the free domain: the domain refund policy says $20 a year, another help article says the listed price for the domain ending, and the Squarespace Domains home page advertises a domain "for only $10" without stating the term. Squarespace does not publish the price of AI credit packs, SMS campaign plans or Mobile Start plans on the pages we read. We have also not listed prices outside the US: Squarespace says it prices plans per billing country, with a different currency and amount in other countries.

How this page was put together

We compared Squarespace's pricing page, its help center articles on billing, fees, domains, refunds and discounts, its coupons and student pages, and Acuity Scheduling's pricing page, all loaded on October 5, 2026. We did not buy a plan or run a store on Squarespace for this page. The break-even figures and yearly savings are our own arithmetic from the published prices. Prices are in US dollars before tax, as shown on those pages, and they change, so check the linked source before you pay.

Verdict

Squarespace's pricing is simple to read, but the entry price is not the whole cost. As of October 2026, expect $228 a year for Basic or $348 for Core on yearly billing, then add the domain renewal from year two and any email, scheduling or email marketing subscriptions you need. For a site that sells, Core is the sensible floor because of the 2% store fee on Basic; for courses and memberships, price Plus. Use the 14-day trial first, and remember that only new yearly plans are refundable, within 14 days. Frequently asked questions

As of October 2026, Squarespace's US pricing page lists Basic at $19 a month, Core at $29, Plus at $49 and Advanced at $99 when billed yearly. Paying month to month costs $25, $39, $65 and $139. Yearly plans are charged up front: $228, $348, $588 and $1,188. Tax is extra where it applies.

No. Squarespace says it does not offer a free plan, but every site starts with a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, and you can ask for a one-time seven-day extension. A trial site stays private until you upgrade to a paid plan.

On the Basic plan, yes: 2% of online store sales and 7% of digital content and membership sales. Core, Plus and Advanced charge 0% on store sales, and 5%, 1% and 0% on digital content. Card processing is separate, from 2.9% + $0.30 per standard card payment with Squarespace Payments in the US, as of October 2026.

The free domain on a yearly plan is free for one year only. Squarespace's domain refund policy says free domains then renew at $20 a year, and its pricing page says the renewal is at its standard rate plus tax (as of October 2026). Prices vary by domain ending, so check the renewal price in your domains dashboard.

Yes. Squarespace says you can connect a domain you already own, or buy a new one through Squarespace, with any subscription. You can also transfer a domain to Squarespace, and yearly plans include one year of free registration for a new domain.

Yes. Current full-time students at eligible colleges and universities can get 50% off the first year of a yearly website plan, verified through Student Beans. It applies to the first payment only, cannot be combined with other offer codes, and monthly plans are not eligible.

For website plans, only in one case: a yearly plan cancelled within 14 days of purchase is refunded in full, minus the cost of a free domain if you registered one. Monthly plans, renewal payments and yearly plans cancelled after 14 days are not refunded.

The pricing page shows one price per plan rather than a lower first-year rate, and plans renew automatically. Squarespace says it periodically adjusts its plans and pricing, and that if it emails you about an increase you pay the updated price on your next renewal date. Offer code discounts apply to the first payment only.

Wix is cheaper to start because it has a free plan: Wix says you can build and publish a site at no cost on a wixsite.com address, and that connecting your own domain requires upgrading. Squarespace has no free plan, so publishing starts at $19 a month billed yearly as of October 2026.
